Request status updates from task assignees.

What are Update Requests?

Update Requests allow admins and controllers to request progress updates from preparers assigned to close tasks. This is useful for:

  • Getting status on critical close steps during a tight deadline window
  • Following up on overdue reconciliations or missing journal entries
  • Maintaining close visibility without relying on email chains or status meetings

Sending an Update Request

Admins can send update requests to assignees:

  1. Navigate to the task you want an update on
  2. Select Request Update from the task menu
  3. Choose which assignee(s) to request an update from
  4. Add an optional message explaining what information you need
  5. Send the request

Responding to Update Requests

When you receive an update request:

  1. Go to Update Requests in the sidebar
  2. Find the pending request
  3. Click to view the request details
  4. Provide your update with current status and any relevant information
  5. Submit your response

Managing Update Requests

For Admins

  • View all sent requests and their responses
  • Track which requests are pending vs. completed
  • Access request history for each task

For Assignees

  • See all incoming update requests in one place
  • Respond directly from the Update Requests page
  • Keep track of requests you’ve already responded to

Best Practices

  • Be specific — mention whether you need a completion ETA, a variance explanation, or confirmation of sign-off
  • Respond promptly — during close week, same-day responses keep the schedule on track
  • Use for exceptions — the Dashboard and Kanban board should handle routine status visibility; reserve update requests for tasks that are overdue or stalled
